
Dion Simon is a First Nations artist from the Ermineskin Band of the Maskwacîs Cree Nation in Treaty 6 territory. He is of Cree and Blackfoot ancestry, with relations in the Piikani Nation of southern Alberta. A self-taught artist, Dion began drawing with lead pencil at the age of six and has since evolved his practice to primarily oil painting.
While attending post-secondary studies at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD), he further developed his skills through formal art classes, where he discovered and explored oil and acrylic mediums. Dion has been painting for over 11 years and has sold numerous commissioned works locally, as well as to collectors in the United States and Europe. He currently serves as the Medicine Trail Coordinator and cultural advisor at Mount Royal University.
